Born in Meißen, pianist Stephan Matthias Lademann received his musical education at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden. During his studies, he discovered his deep passion for art song accompaniment, which has since become the central focus of his artistic work. Since the 2000s, Vienna has been his musical home.
As artistic partner of Siegfried Jerusalem and collaborator with numerous renowned singers - including Diana Damrau, Edita Gruberova, Marlis Petersen, René Pape, Robert Holl, Günther Groissböck, Daniela Fally and Chen Reiss - he has established himself internationally as a highly sought-after song pianist. His concert appearances have taken him to major music centers and prestigious festivals, including the Wiener Musikverein, the Salzburg Festival, the Semperoper Dresden, the Berlin State Opera, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Hamburg State Opera, the Munich Opera Festival, as well as Carnegie Hall in New York and Teatro alla Scala in Milan. In addition, he has given concerts and masterclasses in Mexico, Kazakhstan and Shanghai, among other locations.
His extensive discography includes a live recording with Diana Damrau at the Salzburg Festival, the world premiere recording of Gustav Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn in its original piano version, and Das Lied von der Erde in the version for tenor, baritone, and piano. Together with Marlis Petersen, he recorded the multi-award-winning CD trilogy "Dimensionen" (Dimensions), including the album "Dimensionen - Welt" (Dimensions - World), which won the Diapason d'Or, and the CD "Dimensionen - Innenwelt" (Dimensions - Inner World), which won the German Opus Klassik award. Their latest joint recording, Blossoms of Love, will be released in 2026.
Alongside his concert career, Lademann has devoted himself since 2009 to musical-literary projects in collaboration with distinguished actors. Stephan Matthias Lademann is Professor of Lied and Oratorio Interpretation at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna
